Ice is Funny!
Tonight, we went to Taco Bell for dinner. As we were finishing our meal, I pulled Maddie out of her seat to join me on my lap. I took the last sip of my root beer, which drew her attention over to my cup full of ice. She started grabbing at the cup, feeling the cold sides and trying to put it in her mouth. For no reason at all, I decided to start shaking the cup. The result of this shaking was an immediate, contagious and hilariously adorable giggle from our 8-month old. The entire restaurant took turns looking in the direction of the baby laughter, and I couldn't resist encouraging the behavior to continue! After about 2 minutes of this, we finally got the novel idea to pull out Brant's cell phone and take a mini-video of the scene. By this point, the laughter had died down a bit from what it was to begin with, but it was still awesome. Enjoy!!

Blizzard Video
Here is our latest video for your viewing pleasure. This particular video is definitely more for our own archive sake, to document the crazy winter weather we've been having. It is not one filled with all kinds of events - only the two big storms we had last week. The weatherman is predicting another snow system to move in town tomorrow night, but I don't think it is supposed to amount to much...we'll see. At this rate, who knows?!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Blizzard 2010!
I never realized what a big deal a blizzard was, until I was in one. I know that sounds sort of dumb, but really; you always hear about "blizzards" on the news, as you are sitting on your couch in rainy Seattle or Portland, but don't ever witness them. Well, did we ever witness one!!
As you all are aware, because it has been on the national news for days, we were slammed with a very big, intense snowstorm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Now mind you, we were already hit last Saturday, and although the streets were clear, and a good amount of meltdown had occurred, we still had several inches of snow on the grounds around our neighborhood. Tuesday evening, around 7:30, the snow started to fall...and fall...and fall...and it didn't stop until Wednesday night around 9pm. It wasn't until Wednesday afternoon that we saw the blizzard take shape, with wind blowing, and hard snow coming down. Cars, trees, roads and sidewalks were covered in a matter of minutes! The seminary maintenance crews were out throughout the duration of the storm, trying to keep things semi-cleared. They work really hard out here, but they were no match for the intensity of this storm, at least in the heart of it. The first batch of pictures below are from Wednesday afternoon, when the storm really started blowing. And the bright, sunny pictures, were taken yesterday, on our morning walk. There were some serious snowmen, among other figures, around the neighborhood that we took pictures of. Enjoy!
These two pictures were taken at 3:00pm.

These two pictures were taken at 5:00pm, from the same view. Check out the difference on the trees from the first picture to this picture!

When a dog needs to go, a dog needs to go...no matter the weather conditions. :)

I apologize for the quality of this picture...it is taken from our bedroom window, so the screen distorts the picture just a bit. But if you look closely, you can see cars, including ours, under the mounds of snow!
This is through the window of our dining room, as the snow just keeps coming! By this point, the snow you are looking at came up to our knees!
And now, for the day after...
Sooo pretty!!
Our apartment is on the corner, ground level, furthest away from this vantage point.
Snowman #1. They even managed to get a carrot on his nose way up there!
Tromping through the deep snow!
Brant enjoyed making a snow angel, by literally falling backwards. The snow was a wonderful cushion for his fall.

The only hiccup, was that Brant lost his keys in the snow. After digging around for them for several minutes, they were retrieved.

Our little snow bunny!

Another snow figure #2...
Large tree limbs are all over the place.

Snowman #3.
Snowman #4. This one is my favorite!
Snowman #5. There were other snowmen in the area, but the ones on this blog were the most picture-worthy!
Snow figure #6; an igloo!
Our car!

Maddie was cut out of this picture accidentally...because she was in the backpack.

Our happy snow family!

Daddy's Little Drummer Girl
Maddie discovered a musical instrument.
She thinks this particular drum is pretty cool.
In fact, she thinks it is pretty fun!
She even let the master himself play with her, even though she was getting the hang of it on her own.
He taught her a thing or two; like how to hit the drum...and how to hit the drum...
I know someone was quite proud.
And I know another little someone who had a great time!

A Sunday Stroll
Tucker and I (Brant) had a nice walk this morning along the canal and through the Princeton Country Club. The sun was out and the snow was bright! I thought it was going to be really windy today, but so far it's calm and quiet. Jackie and I are a little disappointed that they clean up the streets so efficiently around here - we're used to the city shutting down for a week if 12" of snow falls! By yesterday afternoon, all the streets and even the sidewalks were clear around our apartment complex. We're still enjoying having the snow around, though! Maddie was at home taking a nap during this walk, so you only get a few nature pictures... here you go! And happy Super Bowl!

The Biggest Snowstorm of Our Lives
Greetings from snowy Princeton!!
We've been gearing up for a "big storm" for about 3 days, with all the media hype and chitter-chatter throughout the town. And would you believe it? It actually happened. :)
Brant and I have only seen snow like this in the Cascade Mountains, but never outside our own front door. The storm hit the greater mid-Atlantic region, affecting Princeton, but not nearly has hard core as it did in places like Washington D.C., and even the Jersey shore.
I took this picture at 10:00pm last night, at the sight of the first flakes from our window. You can't tell, and it is a bit blurry, but at least this serves as an appropriate "before" picture.
We woke up a few times throughout the night to use the restroom. There is a window in the bathroom, and it was very exciting to watch the snow accumulate throughout the night, with wild flakes flurrying around. What fun!
This morning, we took our showers, ate our breakfast, bundled up and ventured out into the snowy scene. We accumulated around 1 foot of snow, in approximately 12 hours. The maintenance crew from the seminary has been busy plowing walkways and streets around here all day long. Every bit helps, but it certainly is not clear pavement! The wind has really started to blow out here, making big drifts while it burns against your face. The snow is quite fluffy and soft, so not so great for making snowmen. However, that hasn't stopped the kids around here from having a good time. Just outside our window, there are a number of kids who have gathered and are sledding down a "hill" they created. They also took some big cardboard boxes and piled snow all around them to create little snow forts.
Maddie is not quite old enough to enjoy the snow to the extent that the other children are. But we brought her out just the same! :)
Here she is getting bundled up...and not too sure about it.
My sister gave us this warm suit for Maddie to borrow. It is meant for a 6-9 month old, but it is still incredibly large on her. :) She really is not this big, as the picture kind of shows. It served it's purpose well all the same, and we are very grateful to have it! Thanks Sarah! Maddie seriously reminds me of Randy, from "A Christmas Story". She was yelling at me for a while, because she couldn't move on the floor. She was trying her darnedest to roll over but couldn't in this fun suit!
Brant and Tucker in the snow.
Tucker LOVES the snow. He would jump into a pile that had been created from plowed snow pushed on top of already existing snow, and would simply disappear! A moment later he would shoot out of the pile, snow flying through the air.
He also loves to run through the snow with his mouth open, trying to eat it all up!
Maddie did well in the backpack. She made "cooing" noises the whole time we were outside. It was pretty cute!

And finally, some pictures of the snowy scene around our neighborhood.
Our car...under the blanket of snow - 4th from the left. Our apartment windows are the two bottom ones in the picture.
The playground.
Documentation that will eventually make it into one of our flicks!
And the "after" picture taken just outside our window (several hours after the shovels had come through the walkways, and the snow had started to slow down).
Happy Snow Day! :)
