We had a fantastic and festive 4th of July celebration this year!
We started off our day going to a fairly large neighborhood parade in the nearby town of Sierra Madre. We attended the parade with several families from our small group, and had a great time. The weather was in the 90s, at 10 in the morning, which made for a very hot time. However, we still managed to get a great spot, where plenty of candy, American flags and toothpaste (yes, toothpaste), were tossed out to the crowd. Maddie had so much fun, and was very happy when the firetrucks came roaring down the street at the end of the parade. She kept pointing, excitedly exclaiming, "Big red truck! Big red truck!"
Daddy and Maddie, ready for the parade to start!

"Hooray for America!" Maddie was also pretty excited about the sheriff's sticker that was put on her shirt.

Our little Miss America. :)

After the parade, we went home for a few hours, had some lunch and took naps, in order to store up energy for the afternoon and evening ahead. We went over to our friends' from our small groups house, for a BBQ. There were 4 other kids there, and Maddie had a blast. She played in the sprinkler until we finally turned it off because her lips started shivering (even though it was still very, very warm outside).

She is squealing with absolute delight in this picture, even though she is the victim of the water fight. Maddie doesn't know how to "fight back," but she never seemed to mind. She
loved being dumped with water, time, after time, after time... it was super entertaining to watch!

This was the "Triple Berry Cherry Pie" I made for dessert. It sort of ran over the edges in the oven, but it was absolutely the most scrumptious, all-American pie I have ever made. This pie consists of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries, amongst other yummyness. It was definitely a success and definitely a repeat!

After our BBQ, we loaded up our cars and drove over to The Rose Bowl Golf Course. We drove right onto the green, parked the cars, and found a great spot to spread out for the firework show. It was a perfect evening, the temperature had cooled down, we had lots of space for the kids to run around and play, and the fireworks were spectacular!
