Day 5 - Lincoln, NE to Tinley Park, IL

We left Lincoln, Nebraska at 8:30am on Sunday, August 30th. Brant and I had quite the morning today.

We had to stop at Walmart first thing to get an oil change. You wouldn't think to do something like that when you are on a big trip, but alas, we have covered a lot of miles and have several more to go, so we must take care of the essentials.. Anyway, while we were there, we purchased some canned dog food to feed Tucker. He successfully ate 1/4 of it and was delighted, as were we. Reminder, he hasn't eaten anything in over 2 days. He proceeded to drink up some water. We were feeling good about things. We were packing up the car, which included clearing out and re-packing the cooler, when Brant looked inside the car and saw Tucker throwing up all over the carseat base. Yuck!! Thank goodness Maddie and her carseat were not inside the car yet.

We were cleaning up the mess when Maddie started to fuss. I picked her up and she spit up all over my shirt. So in the middle of cleaning up both of our "little ones'" messes, we had a pretty good laugh about the whole ordeal. Let me tell you, it was an ordeal. :)

Anyway, we traveled through Nebraska, into Iowa, and now we have arrived to Tinley Park, Illinois. We are at the La Quinta Inn, all sharing a room, along with Tucker and Maddie. We have 2 cozy double beds and are doing our very best to stay sane and happy. By the way, today at Walmart, I bought the ABBA Gold cd (basically the soundtrack to Mamma Mia). This was the highlight of my day for sure (as it was for Brant, too!). I left the cd in the car when we switched drivers, and much to my surprise, Dale has been singing to the tunes of ABBA all day and night long. Seriously, I am typing this in bed right now, and he is over there in his bed singing "Dancing Queen" and "Fernando". All I can say...is wow! :) Good times and special memories.

Goodnight, all.

  1. Hi Jackie!! I love you and have been thinking about you all day. Just think - only 2 more days of driving. Wahoo!!! :) Then you get to set up YOUR house with YOUR furniture and YOUR (well, Maddie's) nursery. Yay!!! I am so excited for you!

Just so you know, Dad did awesome at Jeff's service today. He spoke so well and moved a lot of people. The best part was we were mentioned in the speech! :) J/K, that wasn't the best part, but it was pretty neat. :) (haha, someone is going to read that and totally take it the wrong way. Oh well...) We miss you, but are super excited for you! Good luck tomorrow!

  2. Keep smiling! I must confess, I've been addicted to the movie Mamma Mia lately. I bought the DVD and play it each time Bruce leaves to travel. Love the music! Love to you all and be safe, Jan
