Because you deserve an update...

I have been asked to post an update on the past few days by many of you. The thing is, I was also asked not to post by my husband, for fear that his recent videos would not be viewed if I posted a new entry too soon. So, just in case you haven't already, do check out the videos he just posted this week!

I guess the biggest thing to write about for me is my new job. I started yesterday and it is going well. The thing of it is, I am doing exactly what I signed up for, no surprises - I work as an aide in the 1-year old room, therefore, my job description consists of feeding, cleaning up messes, washing dirty toys, playing with 1 year-olds, changing diapers, supervising on the playground (which is teeny tiny), and patting children to sleep. When I say patting, I literally mean patting. It is required of all adults to "pat" or rub the backs of the children while they fall asleep. This is bizarre to me as a parent of a young child, because I would hate to have Maddie grow used to only being able to fall asleep if someone is patting her back. Regardless, that is what we do.
There are some really cute kids at the center and I am enjoying hanging out with them, but as I am with them, I am missing my baby girl like crazy! I love the fact that I work less than 1 minute away from my place and I can get home right away to see my family.

My work schedule is 5 days a week, 3 of those days being from 11:15-3. During that time, Brant is home with Maddie Mae, having some quality daddy/daughter bonding time. So far, we are 2 for 2 awesome days!! This makes my heart smile. :) The other two days have shorter hours, as Brant's class schedule does not permit me to work the full shift. My boss is more than understanding and is completely flexible with my schedule.

I am thankful to have found a job immediately upon arrival here, and to have started up so quickly without a hitch. Its funny; as grateful as I am for this specific job and all of the accommodations I have with my current lifestyle, I miss my job in Bellevue terribly. I miss Somerset, my friends and coworkers, and all of my students. This job is quite different from what I am used to doing. It is a blessing, though, and I recognize that.

In other news, Maddie is now successfully sleeping in her very own room and her very own crib. We have had a summer full of traveling and have always had Maddie in the same room as us. She has been in there for 4 nights, now, and is doing well. The first night I was kind of sad looking over at the empty space where she used to sleep. I'm happy that we have all made the transition well. All of us, that is, except for Tucker. The night we moved Maddie out and went to bed, Tucker started whimpering in the other room and we decided to move his crate into our room. As Brant brought his crate into our room, he was jumping around so excited, and as soon as the crate was on the ground, Tucker ran inside and settled in. Needless to say, he now sleeps in our room. :) We moved one child out and let the "other one" move in.

We've been going to orientation activities this week which has been fun. We've had the opportunity to meet lots of people, although still in the small talk/making acquaintances stage. We'll get there, all in good time, of course. For starters, tomorrow morning I will be going to a brunch for spouses of seminary students only. I am looking forward to it and hope to meet some great people.

I don't really have a great ending for this post, other than saying "that's all, folks!" So, "that's all, folks!" I'll try to get more pictures of our life on here soon.

  1. Thanks for the update, even though I basically already knew all of that. :) I am so happy for you. I understand the transition stuff. In fact, I still feel like I am dealing with that, but all in due time. No, all in GOD'S time. Just gotta trust and believe.

    I love you!
